Bruce Bickford is a clay animation artist who is most famous for working with Frank Zappa in the 1970s. His work can be seen in the movie “Baby Snakes” and “The Amazing Mr Bickford”. Bickford started working with clay when he was just 8 years old, and he hasn’t stopped since.

The exhibition presented artefacts from his clay animation projects, from a dog he sculpted in 1955 to three little female figures he created while doing TV interviews in this exhibition.

Also included in the exhibition was a large number of drawings as well as works on/with paper and dried leaves. One room showed his large clay model of “Twin Peaks” and videos on five screens, including line and clay animation. In essence, this was the first Bruce Bickford retrospective, created in very close collaboration with Bruce Bickford and his associate, Nicholas Garaas, without whom this project could not have been realised.

The exhibition attracted almost 10,000 visitors and was extensively featured in the press and TV programmes in Germany.

A catalog was published by local publishing house Topalian & Milani. Conné van d’Grachten photographed the items presented in the exhibition. His photos are augmented with texts in Germand English, as well as with drawings by Bruce Bickford.
